Your implant quote in Vista will list three billed parts for one tooth: the post that goes into your jawbone, the abutment that connects to it, and the crown you see. In March 2026, California in-network insurance rates for those three parts added up to $3,547 per tooth. Extraction, bone grafting and a 3D scan come on top if your case needs them.
If you live in Vista, San Marcos, Oceanside or Carlsbad, this guide shows you how to read a quote line by line and work out what you will pay. For the clinical side, see our dental implant treatment in Vista page.
What goes into a Vista dental implant quote
Dentists across the US build implant quotes from the American Dental Association's CDT procedure codes. A single-tooth quote carries at least three of them, and your insurer pays code by code. Compare two dentists the same way.
- D6010: surgical placement of the implant post. Appears on every implant.
- D6056 or D6057: the abutment, prefabricated or custom-made. Appears on every implant crown.
- D6065: the porcelain or ceramic crown on the implant. Appears on every single-tooth implant.
- D7140 or D7210: tooth extraction, simple or surgical. Appears when the failing tooth is still in place.
- D7953: a bone graft to preserve the socket. Appears when bone volume is short.
- D0364 to D0367: a cone beam CT (CBCT) 3D scan. Used for planning.
Ask the office to print these codes on your quote. If two quotes sit $1,000 apart, check whether one leaves out the abutment or the graft. That missing line can account for most of the gap.
At Main Street Dental, we start implant planning with digital imaging and a bone assessment, so your quote reflects your jaw.
What each part of a single implant costs in California in 2026
In March 2026, California in-network rates averaged $1,779 for the implant post, $390 to $522 for the abutment and $1,246 for the crown. A post, custom abutment and crown came to $3,547.
- Implant post (D6010): $1,779 average. The middle 50% of rates ran from $1,620 to $1,955 (84 rates sampled).
- Custom abutment (D6057): $522 average. Middle 50%: $448 to $611 (75 rates sampled).
- Prefabricated abutment (D6056): $390 average. Middle 50%: $322 to $452 (41 rates sampled).
- Porcelain or ceramic implant crown (D6065): $1,246 average. Middle 50%: $1,044 to $1,456 (58 rates sampled).
- Single tooth (post + custom abutment + crown): $3,547 average. Middle 50%: $3,112 to $4,022.
Insurers publish these negotiated rates under the federal Transparency in Coverage rule, and PayorMap's California implant rate data compiles them, with the latest refresh in March 2026. The figures show what in-network dentists agreed to accept from insurers. An office charges a patient without insurance a different, higher fee.
Use the table as a minimum. The sample is small, 41 to 84 contracted rates per code, and the spread is wide: California rates for the same D6010 implant post ran from $756 to $2,365.
If you don't have insurance, the table won't give you your price. Each practice sets its own office fee above its negotiated rates. Ask for both numbers side by side, and ask which one applies to you.

Extraction, bone graft and 3D scan: the extra lines on your quote
Offices bill extraction, bone grafting and a CBCT scan as separate line items. Vista quotes vary most on these lines.
Extraction
A simple extraction (D7140) averaged $141 at California in-network rates in March 2026. Surgical removal of a broken or impacted tooth carries its own code and costs more. Still deciding whether to save the tooth? Our guide to choosing a root canal or extraction compares the long-term costs of both.
Bone graft
After you lose a tooth, the bone around the socket shrinks. A graft rebuilds it, and dentists price grafts per site. The March 2026 insurer data has no reliable California rate for grafting, so ask whether your quote includes it and how many sites it covers.
CBCT scan
A cone beam CT scan maps the height and width of your bone, the nerve canal in your lower jaw and the sinus floor in your upper jaw. At an implant consultation at Main Street Dental, our team checks bone density, sinus position and nerve pathways before recommending where to place the implant.
Upper molars sit close to the maxillary sinus, so an upper molar implant is the case most likely to pick up a graft line.
Full arch and All-on-4 quotes come per arch
Full arch treatment replaces every tooth in your upper or lower jaw on four to six implants, so offices quote it per arch. Cleveland Clinic's 2026 patient guide gives the same four-to-six range.
The posts alone show the scale. Four D6010 posts at the California in-network average total $7,116, and six total $10,674. Those figures leave out the fixed bridge or snap-on denture, the extractions and the temporary teeth.
At Main Street Dental, we offer same-day full arch implants. If you qualify, you go home on surgery day with a temporary set of teeth. Comparing full arch quotes? Check that each one is per arch and covers both the temporary teeth and the final prosthesis.
What your dental insurance pays toward an implant
If your PPO covers implants as a major service, it will pay 50% of its allowed fee until you hit the annual maximum. For most implant claims, that maximum sets the limit. The American Dental Association describes the familiar plan design as 100% for preventive care, 80% for basic and 50% for major work.
Annual maximums run low next to implant prices. In December 2025, ADA News reported National Association of Dental Plans data showing 32.8% of in-network maximums sit between $1,000 and $1,500, and 48.2% between $1,500 and $2,500.
Dr. Bert Hughes, vice chair of the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs, told ADA News: "Patients face a steep financial burden long before their clinical needs have been met."
Take one implant at the $3,547 California total, with a $1,500 maximum and 50% coinsurance:
- Post, abutment and crown billed in one plan year: your plan pays $1,500, because it hits the cap. You pay $2,047.
- Post in year one, abutment and crown in year two: your plan pays $889.50 in year one and $884 in year two, $1,773.50 in total. You pay $1,773.50.
Cleveland Clinic says the bone takes three to nine months to fuse to the implant. If your dentist places the post in the fall, the abutment and crown can go on after the January reset with no wait beyond normal healing. In this example, splitting the work across two plan years saves you $273.50.
Plan the stages around healing, and don't put off treatment to wait for the reset. Staging gets you around the cap, but you still pay the 50% coinsurance. It also only helps if your plan covers implants and you have no other claims that year. Before you book, ask your plan:
- Do you cover D6010, or do you pay a bridge benefit instead?
- Is there a waiting period for major services?
- Does a missing-tooth clause exclude teeth I lost before my coverage started?
- How much of this year's maximum do I have left?
Does Medi-Cal or Medicare pay for dental implants in California?
Medi-Cal Dental pays for implants only if the state approves a documented exceptional medical condition in advance. Original Medicare doesn't cover implants in most cases.
The Department of Health Care Services restated the rule in its July 2025 Medi-Cal Dental provider bulletin. It lists four conditions: jawbone lost to oral cancer surgery or radiation, severe jaw atrophy that grafting can't correct, skeletal deformities such as ectodermal dysplasia, and traumatic destruction of the jaw or face. If you lost teeth to decay or gum disease, you won't qualify.
Medicare.gov states that Original Medicare doesn't cover items like dentures and implants in most cases. On a Medicare Advantage plan? Check its dental benefit summary for implant codes before you assume either way.
Spreading the cost with Cherry
Main Street Dental offers Cherry payment plans, which split your treatment into monthly payments. Cherry runs a soft credit check that won't affect your credit score. We also accept most PPO plans and CareCredit.
Cherry's published 2026 terms run from 1 to 60 months at 0% to 35.99% APR, for amounts up to $65,000. You get 0% only if Cherry approves you for it. The down payment usually equals one monthly payment.
On a $3,547 single implant, a 24-month plan at 0% APR comes to about $142 a month, plus about $142 at checkout. A higher approved APR raises the total you pay, so look at the APR you're offered as well as the monthly figure.
Implant, bridge or denture: which costs less over time?
For one missing tooth, an implant tends to cost you less per year than a three-unit bridge. It lasts longer, and your dentist doesn't need to file down the teeth on either side of the gap. A 2013 literature review by Vogel and colleagues in the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants found a single implant cost-effective against a traditional three-unit bridge.
The survival data supports this. Howe, Keys and Richards put 10-year implant survival at 96.4% in a 2019 systematic review in the Journal of Dentistry.
Expect the crown to wear out first. Cleveland Clinic notes most crowns and bridges last around 15 years, so budget for one replacement crown (D6065, about $1,246 at today's in-network average) over the life of the implant.

Comparing implant quotes in North County
Line up quotes by CDT code, implant system and what happens if the implant fails. The per-tooth headline number tells you little on its own. Ask each office:
- Which CDT codes does the quote include, and is the abutment custom (D6057) or prefabricated (D6056)?
- Which implant brand do you use, and can another dentist service it later?
- Does the price include the CBCT scan, extraction and graft, or do you bill them separately?
- Who sees me during the three-to-nine-month healing period?
- What do you charge if the implant or crown needs replacing?
Pricing clinics in Tijuana as well? Run the same code-by-code comparison and give follow-up care more weight. Healing and check-ups stretch over several months, so plan for more than one trip.
We also give second opinions on implant treatment plans. Bring another office's quote to your consultation, and we'll go through it with you line by line.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a molar dental implant cost?
A molar implant uses the same three CDT codes as any single implant, so the base averaged $3,547 at California in-network rates in March 2026. Upper molars can cost more in total. They sit near the maxillary sinus, so you're more likely to need a bone graft before the post goes in.
How much does a dental implant cost without insurance in Vista?
Without insurance, you pay the practice's office fee. Each dental office sets that fee above the rates it negotiates with insurers. Measure an uninsured quote against California's 2026 in-network average of $3,547 for post, abutment and crown, and ask for both fees in writing.
Why do implant quotes in Vista differ by thousands of dollars?
Quotes include different line items and different fee levels. In March 2026, California in-network rates for the same implant post code (D6010) ranged from $756 to $2,365. Extractions, bone grafts, CBCT scans and custom abutments widen the spread.
How long does the implant process take from first visit to final crown?
Most single implants take three to nine months from post placement to final crown, because your jawbone needs that long to fuse to the implant. Cleveland Clinic gives this range in its 2026 patient guide. Same-day temporary teeth fill the gap in your smile while you heal. They don't shorten the healing.
